The MR4 Ali Mortise Rail

The new Aluminum Mortise Rail bolts on to the WoodRat in place of the Cam Clamps. It provides a robust 87mm (3 1/2") u-section to take pieces for mortising and grooving. You can add multiple pieces and track them, firm and square, under the cutter through the entire length of the Rail.

Although the 'Rat makes great M&T joints using a simple shop made Rail, this Mortise Rail has a number of advantages.

Repeatable Mortises

Using the WoodRat, Simply cut 6.3mm slots in a batten to give the length and position of each mortise to be cut in the stiles or rails. Fit the batten in the t-slot beneath the machine, and locate the indexing pin to align each mortise position.

Secure the stiles in the Mortise Rail and cut mortises along the length of the stiles. At each position cut both mortises together so that the rails will align precisely in the finished frame.

Going Large

By cutting from both sides you can now produce mortises up to 5" deep. Add a simple shop made table and you can easily cut 5" tenons to match. Ideal for making room height paneled doors or a five bar gate.

Note: The Mortise Rail is available in 870mm and 600mm lengths. The Longer for WR5 and WR900 and the shorter one is for the LittleRat and WR600.
